Ferry is in the past, for a reason. His set at FMF was terrible. I am sure that most of the kids there knew who Carl Cox was
So how do you go about changing the trends then vman? How do we get these kids to turn their back on what they are told is "in" and open their minds? They dont know what this stuff is because they cant hear it, see it or access it easily. They also have the right to like what they choose to like, they are human you know
When I first started going out I listened to nothing but Hard Dance because that is what my friends listened to and what I could access. Its taken me five years to actually get some taste in music and realise what really gets me going.
House music is such a massive part of music and its history. What's wrong with them liking that? Or do you mean cheesy electro?
Maybe you guys need to get out on the street with some banners and flyers saying "SAVE OUR SCENE" LOL! I look around Melbourne and I see such a huge range of successful nights to go to that play House, Techno, Hard dance, Hip Hop, Electro and Tr... oh yeah sorry not trance. Trance people are the one's complaining that there is nothing to do and blaming everyone else for it. |
hehehe Liz darling, no need for an apology for not knowing who half the line up is... ok so maybe i should change it to, alot of the kids only know who one or two of the dj's are, mostly because they had an appearance in a MOS Annual or some shit.
And im not saying there is anything wrong with house... i love house... in fact i love all music and especially all forms of EDM music, house included. BUT, you cant say the house music scene in melbourne is up to scratch ?? In fact i would say that its so single minded over here, that we have created our own "CULTURE" of house fanatics... and that is, accesorized, hangbag, cardigan wearing with a hint of emo, bang gangin Electro house.... And you know what pisses me off... they dont even know what Electro is... They called their music Electro... its not Electro, its Electro House... Electro goes back years and years back to the days of Black audiences in the UK listening to electro funk
In regards to the trends liz, and getting people to turn their backs to whats in, its a bit difficult to do that considering House is so massive in melbourne... and i wouldnt exactly say people can be changed im just trying to get across that many melbournites, especially the youngins and so unaware of the present and the past in relation to EDM music...
Ok, heres an example... a few months back i went to see Eric Morillo at QBH... fukin fantastic, loved him for a while now, his choice of songs very broad, and he is a very good dj who loves doing what he does. He even runs his own label. Now to the point of this story, im in the toilets doing number 1's lol, and theres all these blokes in the toilets saying "this music is fuckin shit, wheres the house music?" now these were mainly the younger ones (18-19 yo)... another response i heard was "fuck man this music is awesome im sick of hearing electro house we need more of this shit" and these guys were namely the older (22+ yo).
How can everyone be so one sided about house.... all of a sudden somepeople find it shit because it lacks a certain bassline ??? thats it?
Theres nothing i can do about the scene, and even if i could would it really be effective ? At the end of the day regardless of the quality of the sets played at FMF, i still enjoyed it Alot... it was nice to have so techno, prog house, tech house and trance played towards the end... at least there was something for those of us who still enjoy hearing the music of our roots. LOL
let the flaming begin
PS - vman lubs joo all
