*obligatory special olympics winner/loser joke*

since when is deejaying about a fan base?

i always thought deejaying was about playing other people's music in a public setting.

maybe armin should run for political office or start a sitcom or a new religion. seems like he's in the wrong field to me.

anyways it's not hard to build up a fanbase when you are a pandering tool with a businessman's attitude. you know if you need to make money you do what you have to do. but i highly doubt he needs anymore money than he has, and now he's clearly driven only by ego and his deep promethean desire

He's gotta be the most banal person on the face of the earth (or underneath the face as well) as evidenced by the fact he went to law school even though he is a world famous DJ. Oh man tax law is soooo fucking exciting! I guess that is why he creates and plays boring music.

I like how he has a little runway so he can walk out and do the Jesus pose.

copied it from your thread, clovis

haha whatever

in short, people need to care more about music and less about celebrity - i think the booth and club design can actually affect that tendency

well you guys cant ignore that he's also a producer. I don't think there is anything wrong with producers having a fan base. Now rockstar poses on album covers or any type of revealing face picture of the artist on a compilation cover, now THAT is wrong. But I agree with adam, unless the guy is so damn good and making songs and remixes on the fly he should never be seen as a celebrety or anyone special. just as a professional.

That 'runway' was for the special guests. And whether you like Armin or not, he's still a fucking damn good DJ: he knows what he's doing.
I don't know why people are against having a fanbase and following. It just seems natural that when you are doing something that people like, then some kinda collective would form as a social side effect.
And about the DJing...yes, it's playing other people's music in public places, but doing with style and individual flair. That's when support seems to be warranted, and should be.

Good discussion. My two favourite clubs have both got different styles of booth, one on ground level that you could stand right beside the booth if you so wished, although hardly anyone does.

The other is slightly elevated, maybe about 4-5 feet off the ground. Both are equally good.

He's just playing other people's records. Sasha, Howells, they have fanbases too, and you don't see them running up a catwalk to bask in the collective ahhs of a clueless public. It's called grandstanding, and it's making the DJ out to be something he's not: GOD.

Tenaglia does this, but you know what? He jumps in the crowd and starts dancing WITH THEM. Because he knows it's mostly not about him, it's about the music.

I dig it when the cats setting up the show puts a camera looking down on the decks/mixer and projects it. It's quite neat to see the decks and mixer on a big projection screen, then everyone gets to watch the fun.

Not often this happens, but I've been to a few parties with such.
