they never said they thought he'd get a lifetime ban, and he won't.
I don't know where my other post went...but anyway, the guys on ESPN were discussing a lifetime ban. guess it was just banter and I misinterpreted it.
He probably won't get one, I guess, but he should get something on top of his jail time, don't you agree? At least a season I say. The NFL has the chance here to send a message to their seemingly volatile athletes here. I hope they don't squander it.

they discussed the topic and said he wasn't going to get a lifetime ban, but that they thought it would probably be more than the year that Pacman got.
so that could possibly be 2 seasons...but is that on top of the time he serves in jail? THis could very well destroy his career and I really couldn't give a shit since he's already (or at least should be) finanically secure for life.
I wonder if the Falcons might eventually just release him or somehow void his contract?

on top of having to wave bye bye to the rest of his 10 year contract and the millions of dollars not to mention countless endorsement deals? on top of having a lifetime reputation as a dog killer? on top of no team really wanting to resign him after he gets out of prison because it'll be one big PR disaster?
even if the NFL "squanders" the chance, he's deservedly getting plenty on top of his jail time. anything else would just add insult to injury

they'll recoup the signing bonuses & he'll forfeit his salary for the time left. He's never going to start again in the nfl, but I wouldn't be shocked if he came back in some capacity. His suspension will probably depend on his jail sentence, but I'm sure it'll be substantial, mainly because he told Goodell that he was innocent & that everything was false in a face-to-face meeting between the two.
you guys bring up great points and it's pretty clear that Vick is losing this PR battle in horrible fashion. I haven't met anyone, save two jackasses, who have even offered the slightest sympathy for this unbelievable tool. Because of his talent and potential though, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the NFL in 2-3 years after this has blown over.
So can Atlanta void his contract now or what's exactly happening to that mega 10 year deal he signed?

he's already made $37 million from the contract, and they can't take that away from him. They can terminate the rest of the deal, though, but it'll kill them from a salary cap perspective ($22 mil. hit over the next 2 years). They'll probably wait 2 years (during which he won't be allowed to play anyway, so they won't be paying him, but technically keep him under contract to avoid the cap hit), then release him. Either way, he's not going to make any more money from the Falcons.

if he comes back next year, i'd be surprised.
if he comes back in 2 years, and in the same shape and can make the same impact he did, then i'd be surprised.
it takes a lot of energy and commitment to come back to the game, and play at the same level before he left the game.
