Genetic spontaneity is incredibly important to our survival as a species. This is absurd.
Once science replaces the birth process with something a little more predictable and efficient, I think we'll head the way of trainspotting: "In a thousand years, there will be no men and women, just wankers, and that's fine by me".
Or we'll go the way of every other living organism that survived before us and use up all the planet's resources until we have none to support ourselves and croak. As much as we like to credit ourselves for our ingenuity, everything that preceeded our race has failed to exist for a terribly long time and it's a pretty logical result for ourselves.
The sun is a big ball of constantly occuring chemical reactions, that just keeps going until all the matter is used up, and that's about the end of it. The fact that no one else has been able to colonize the universe and communicate with us is sort of proof that this isn't going to work exactly the way we think it might (with people as a race going on for practically ever).
