I would be interested to see how much money is generated for the city through permits, taxes and general commerce generated by clubland evey year. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you move to the entertainment district, don't complain about drunk revelers and loud music...you should have seen it coming.
Also, anyone know what's happening to Fez Batik now that the outreach shelter has been squashed? |
the shelter has been squashed? Since when? Last i heard the city bought it last minute and is well under way into turning into a homeless shelter.
Here's my theory on how this scam works:
Federal government offers $5 million for homeless shelter. City takes the $5 million to buy a building worth less than half that amount. (they paid at least $2million more than it was worth). City uses building as homeless shelter for a couple of years. City sells building to condo developer. City just made a cool $2.5 million off the federal government and now gets a condo on top of it. In the process they look like they care about homeless people to win votes. Not to mention the sweetheart deals that were probably made along the way that we will never know about.
Between that and the "crackdown" on clubs its dirty politics all around. And it's not designed with ANY residents in mind. Niether clubbers nor condo owners. Its all about politicians greed. It would be interesting to see the breakdown of campaign donations to city hall in the last election. Im guessing they probably had condo developers written all over the cheques.
