Well of course it's a business decision in the end - that is what they work for. They work their ass off organizing, bring you the music, you pay to get in, and they get paid for their efforts. Do you ever come into work not really caring whether you get paid for the work you're going to do?

my answer to that would be in every business there are trend setters, and trend followers. Like 'work', you can choose to go and do what everyone else is doing and collect your paycheque, but it's it those individuals who seek more than just the norm who MOLD and help CREATE a scene/movement. It only takes 1 person to venture out there and take that risk. You might be content at being part of 'the norm' and doing what everyone else does and collect your paycheque. I don't.

I think for these promoters and people who claim to care so much about the 'scene', they have a responsibility of not only bringing IN international and recognized talent, but to promote and encourage the grass roots and local stuff as well. Like sports.

On that note, I'd like to congratulate all these 'local' dj's who are making their mark on the international stage...I think it's about time. We have more talent here that most people realize.

AH....yeah....its all about money. Toronto is far from having a diverse scene and they won't have a diverse scene because the big name clubs want money...and could care less about introducing people to various types of music.

If Guv could sell out every saturday doing country music....don't think they wouldn't switch over in a second....although it would be funny to see the skasians wearing cowboy hat and boots with glowsticks.

What?

Anyway, in every business there are also those who succeed, and those who fail. And a lot of times people who try to be trend setters fail, cause setting a trend is a lot harder than just saying I'm going to do it. It's not that easy being successful at bringing in a crowd for a DJ whose musical style Toronto's crowd is not used to. If you think you know the way to do it, by all means, become the next trendsetter promoter. What do you have to lose, except loads of success and a good paycheque?

when and where in Japan?

I'm spending this year having a blast partying in Tokyo and have two gig offers for early next year penciled in here.

I'm trying to get NuEra over here too!
It would be great to see the same Toronto crowd here in Tokyo, you guys could kill the clubs over here.

Seems like most of the home grown talent who get recognition are people who are from outside the borders of T.O.

Unfortunately, this city is well known for only accepting and recognizing it's home grown talent once they've proven themselves on an international stage, and that goes for more than dj's (eg. bands, singers, even athletes and professionals like: doctors, engineers, etc...)

Montreal has a better track record of producing more internationally recognized dj's and artists in general than Toronto, and I'd probably go as far as to credit their initial local support for those results.

What do you mean, "from toronto"?

I don't think you need to be born and raised to eventually call yourself from toronto. Obviously not the guys from Waterloo that I mentioned, but Greg and Jeff I would consider them "from toronto" in every sense.
