No, that's not the reason. It's mainly because elements of deep house have started appearing in productions of the 'minimal' (or tech-house) guys and some sort of hybrid between these two was a result. For the case in point see: Solomun & Stimming - Eiszauber or Patrick Zigon - Soultray
Thus the growing interest in pure deep house. People noticed, magazines noticed and... let the hype begin.

I s'pose that's true too. My own experience with folks noticing the genre, though, tends to stem from associates jumping on the sound when they tire of music that's more obvious. Of course, this was at a time when minimal wasn't even heard of, beyond the proper stuff anyway.

Agreed, I think I have an easier time determining what isn't Progressive House than what it actually is.

What's with that sudden animosity towards prog. house? I just hope we're hating new kind of prog. here (especially that awful mixture of prog. and electro), because IMO even the best deep house tunes can't compare with soulful, deep and fresh house music that was coming from Guerilla, Cowboy, Limbo and Stress at the beginning of the 90s

whenever there's a discussion about deep house it ALWAYS drifts toward progressive house and prog trance because trance is more closely related to it and people are more familiar with it
anyway why describe it when you can listen to it?

and i would hardly call white room prog house. it's simply trance
here's an example of soulful house
