Probably going to run between $130-$160, basic, versatile, works every time.
Highly recommended. I own one.
Damn, that looks bad as fuck! And the price is just right! Thx man!

DA, just a word of advice. try installing the program before bitching and moaning "no vista support". vista has an insanely good "compatibility" layer built into it that works wonders. i remember when i had vista on this laptop in rc1 stage (beta pre-release but feature additions are frozen. so its all bug fixes) and even though there were lots of incompatibilities i saw the progress in the compatibility layer. it works very well now.

Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrraul, consider the Alesis USB mixing board.
$150 and has several channels (8 total, 6 simultaneous if i remember right) and often comes bundled with Cubase LE which should handle your recording needs.
The MAudio interface is a decent piece as well. Ultimately it depends on how many inputs you need now or in the future. The size is also an issue, but the Alesis mixer fits nicely inside a lightweight plastic case and isnt too bulky or heavy. Both devices should be avaliable at your local sam ash or similar; ask for their opinions, then buy online to save a bundle
(approx 10"x10")

Man, that looks cool as fuck. It says it only works on XP/XP Pro though? It would most likely require specific Vista drivers, yes?

not technically. you can use xp drivers but its not recommended at all. vista drivers are preferred for obvious reasons.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I won't be touching Vista AT LEAST until SP1 comes out for it.

why? the reason that vista drivers are preferred is because they have changed the sound driver system a ton. so if you use an xp driver it wont run as well since its in a sort of compatibility mode. they have made it to where sound wont crash the whole computer if you have a vista driver. if you use an xp driver its not supposed to crash the system but i know for a fact that theres a good possibility if thats what causes the system to hang. then again i never used final either. i was only on RC1 and RC2. my buddy uses vista full time and he hasnt reinstalled in a while. something he did about once a month with all other windows versions.
