I no longer have specific hours where I am expected to be present. There are meetings or tests which require my presence, but since I am involved in scheduling them, it's easy enough to make sure it is when I will be there. I can do much of my work from home, so if I am sick I simply stay home and work from there.

man some of you are lucky

if im gone one day i expect a huge mess waiting for me the day i get back because apparently they think its a good idea to show 1 person how to do an entire role and not have anyone cross train into it. i've seen/heard some of my co-workers try and do the shit i do and they are just lost. even my supervisor doesn't know how to.

i left work to go to the doctor one day b/c i had a 102 fever, this was only after telling my boss at 530am in person that i was sick... i had to tell him face to face and then it was his call to let me to go the doctor at 7am...

the Army doctor put me on 24hr quarters, but not before my boss made me MC a ceremony before 100 people and 3 Colonels... i felt special to get the rest of the afternoon off...(technically i was allowed to leave, but in my boss's eyes since i was there i might as well take one for the team and stay a bit)

broken colarbone and broken foot was just a 30min leave to get the doctor to write me a profile explaning why I wasn't allowed to do PT (physical training) as if each cast wasn't enough...

but yeah like Will said... 30 days paid vacation a year and whenever there is a federal holiday the military goes ahead and makes it a 4-day... so i guess that means like 40+ paid non-hoiday days off a year and there are also Passes which are days off that your boss allows that wont count against your given 30 days off... and i was able to use 10 of those this year... and those 30 days of regular leave do rollover..

both this year and last i took 60+ paid days off..(my days ON though this year though were 5am-7pm mon-fri and 5am-2pm sat, excluding the nights we had to sleep out in the field)

but that was then... pre-out of Army status...

with scheduled raises/promotions regardless of performance (pratically unless somebody died), free full health care, and extra pay for living expenses and rent,... 80% of the military get even extra pay each year for uniforms and for having kids/dependents...

I know i rambled on about military perks... all of it wasn't worth it... I'd rather go back to Iraq than be in the Army state-side...

i hear You, and Will.

i remember that- if your sick- you go to sick call, otherwise get to work.

all those extra days off are great if you are in CONUS,
but if you are TDY (out of country on mission) 300 days in one year,
it's "make it happen".

they're pretty cool at the workplace for me. i just started work, and we put together a plan to have our daily meetings at 8:30am. if we are late for a meeting, the person who comes the latest has to buy everyone breakfast.

I had to go to Expo Design Center in Westbury. SOOOOO happy that I was done at 2pm and got back across the Verrazano before traffic. I swear I have spent 2/3rds of the past 6 months sitting in line to get across that bridge....or the GW too. lol

tbh though, I love coming across the Verra early in the morning; driving down by the water and seeing all the people out running, biking, walking dogs is kinda relaxing lol. Takes your mind off all the crazy drivers!
