You have a collection of 0's& 1's in not particuarly great quality, on a hard drive which will crash at some point.
Something great to pull out and show the kids/grandkids...
'look kids heres daddys/grandads old music collection . Of course i cant play you any of it, as its incompatible with current formats... but take my word for it, its awesome. I can hum it for you if you like...'
and you have a collection of, let me guess, wax, which will break/warp/get too dusty at some point.
"look, kids, here's my old music collection"
"ok, grandpa. why don't you go back in the basement and we'll go upstairs to play with our wireless wii controllers and our touch-screen phones that can play videos"
/just a pet peeve
//can still hear compression artifacts in 320kpbs
I think when I came to the realisation that I had spent more on music then equipment was roughly around the time I bought Serato.

And whose fault is that, exactly--Beatport's, or the DJ's?
I'm really not the condescending type, but the amount of ignorance and sheer stupidity that goes around on these forums regarding Beatport is sometimes overwhelming.

The one I hate is how people blame Beatport for not being able to sell a particular track in their area. How on earth is that Beatport's fault let alone why would they want to do that!?

'sactly. Beatport add so many hundreds of new tracks (admittedly, as with anything else, a lot are shite) every week that you can quite easily avoid 'just sounding like everyone else' by looking a little bit further than the current top 10.
And remember Beatport isn't the only download site - granted the majority of stock is the same on most of the sites, but most have some labels and tracks that the other sites don't stock so having a look around various different stores can give you a much bigger catalogue with which to distinguish yourself.
Then there's mixing the tracks in an original way etc...

I am so tierd of the Beatport haters, there are a gazillion tracks on that site and if you can't find 15 good unplayed out tracks to put into a mix, then go to Oakenfold's house and do a line of coke off his nut sac

Top 100?
Nothing beats digging through the new releases for hours to find that one track of pure musical bliss.

Actually I can't stand going through new releases on Beatport (just because of the way I like to go through new releases), but I do go through a good 700-800 new releases every week on various other sites and it ends up being pretty anonymous (i.e. a massive Winamp playlist of clips) so half the time I have no idea who the track is by or how well-known it is when I mark it down as one I like. Works for me.
