My first couple of retail jobs were at smaller stores where the owners/managers didn't subscribe the "customer is always right" rule. It was great!
ya i can never work in one again in my life.

honestly it wasnt TOO bad, since it was a very nice restaurant, but from what i gathered.

1) poeple that work in restaurants are SKETCH (def not me)
2) the hours suck.

i mean poeple who make careers out of that shit, its kinda scary of how fucked up and with no direction their life is

Commission based retail sales is fairly heavily founded in technique, appearance and confidence, a lot has to do with the way you present yourself, so if you're doing that then dress appropriately for the job.
If you're going to be working a checkout, packing shelves and other terminally boring retail activity you can probably just get away with trousers, dress shirt and tie. No one expects you to stay in that kind of job, just don't look like you're there to steal things or cause a loss of sales by being a complete idiot

You will not get very "far" if you treat the customer like a dick. But why would anyone use retail to get far? Retail is used to get "through" something, such as quick bills, or pay for school, etc.

1. Don't approach the customer. If they need help, they'll ask for it.
2. Don't walk customers to their aisle unless you first inquire about their handicap by asking "are you retarded?" or "do you need a wheelchair?".
3. Don't use Sir or Ma'am. Conversations end up far friendly if you aren't forced to talk with their cock in your mouth. "yeah man" "yep"
4. If the customer is being a dick, it's your duty as a human being to tell him he's being a dick.
5. Don't stare at her tits unless its obvious she wore it for everyone to stare at her tits.
6. Have fun. The worst thing you can do is take retail seriously. Play football, slam shit, play with the phones, say "meow", pretend to be someone else.

Speaking as someone working in retail as a simple job during college, it fucking sucks. Granted, every store/restaurant/etc. is different, so it may be just fine and dandy where you are. I have my ups and downs at my store, but seriously, don't expect to have a shitload of fun. You'll quickly come to realize that the human race is a sad, degenerating piece of shit.

Godspeed, sir.

oh man the shit i pulled when i worked retail....

One time we had to stick someone to work the fititng rooms and it was for a 6 hour shift so me and the OPs mgr felt bad so to make the day go by faster we took a nickle and some hot glue and stuck it on the floor in front of him. We told him that this would make his day go by faster. We watchd from the camera room and were dying from laughter watchin customers try to pick it up.

I used to break in the new hires by prankin em on the sales floor by callin em from the camera room. I would call up and ask for size 13 timberlands but we would tell em that we needed only the left boot cuz I only had 1 leg. Watching their reactions on the camera was priceless esp after all the trouble they did of trying to find one

i miss the pranks i pulld
