I used to swear by using the xfader for many years until I was forced into using the faders when I had to use my xfader as a wet/dry for my EFX unit and I can honestly say now that faders are the way to go.
Only problem I have with faders (well, on my xone92 anyway) is that they are so loose, I find it hard to be subtle with them. I suppose this is where rotary's come in...
the last time ia mix i did was recorded... the crossfader was on or something i wasnt used to.... and after i finished mixing, the next track came in and it sounded like a trainwreck

Just cut it a little bit so when you throw the channel fader you don't spike the gain structure on the master channel. Then use it so smoothly bring in the next song. It is a lot easier to control turning a knob then pushing a fader
When I cue I have to have the volume fader of the channel I am cueing all the way down so I can have the gain up and hear the track in my headphones. Then I'd have to push the volume fader all the way up, turn the gain all the way down, and bring in the track with the gain only. I fiddled around with it a couple of times but figured it was way too much of a hassle to be arsed with, and I really don't mind mixing with volume faders.

Ted, what you're describing is not what anyone would do unless they wanted to have a very difficult time mixing. Nor is it what I described in the post you are quoting. You don't turn the gain all the way down and the volume fader all the way up. Only an idiot would do that.

This is getting rather hostile.
What I do is I just unscrew the enter body of the mixer and and mix by manually adjusting voltage levels
