That's why he's the new "king of trance", for example few years ago when someone was getting into EDM, you would bring him/her to Tiesto, it was a given, but now im finding more and more that people are getting into Armin first, Armin is the stepping stone, then tiesto and etc., so in terms of popularity i can see why he's number 1

I have some friends that are just getting into trance... They listen to some edm, then they hear people say Armin... They go listen to his mixes.... he has this melodic style that is pleasant to peoples ears, not the hardcore EDM'ers that have progressed, but they new people that get into trance...

Comeon guys I am sure if you go tell that new person to go listen to some underground good progressive dj, he will be like this is wayyy too progressive for me...

I actually know this from personal experience and some of my friends that just got into the scene, 84th Ave put it very well, Armin is the stepping stone to trance, like Tiesto used to be.
