Yeah. And I think the January date was for Europe, so you might be waiting even longer for a deck that's never been reviewed.

If you need decks now, I say go CDJ-200. If you decide you really want the 400's next year, they Pio's hold their value very well.

For pure mixing, the 200's are great.

Yeah i'll prolly just go with the 200s.. 400s sure do look sick though and have some neat features.

Oh well, I can always upgrade =)

According to Serato, you can use the CDJ400 as a NATIVE CONTROLLER for SERATO!!!

It's not really that different to loading a CD really - it's just like having twenty CD's pre-loaded.

The problem I have with mp3 support is that it is painfully slow and still has a lot of bugs (on the 200 anyway).

Have never tried a cd-player that I really liked doing this on yet.. but hey, maybe one day
For now, I really prefer max 10 tracks per CD or Conectiv/SSL/Traktor etc.

Yep, and they said they'll add other popular ones later...

Wonder how that'll work. Right now you need the SL-1 to run the Serato software, surely they won't give SSL away... bet you'll still need the SL-1 to input into your mixer. Not sure how that's better than using control CD's.

without looking at the specs i can almost guarantee it doesn't play flac.

i'd like to actually physically use the platter before i make any judgements about it. if it feels and functions exactly like the 800/1000 platter, just smaller, then it sounds like a solid piece of equipment. it does look ugly as fuck though.

also if it's only $100 or so less than the 800mk2, i'd probably just get the 800's instead.

Looks nice, i dunno if it will last as long as some of their other players. it seems lke pioneer like to test ides out on smaller units before they introduce them to bigger units. like the dmp-555 their first unit with mp3, they used that as a test now all pio units have mp3 capabilities.

while the whole plugging in a mass storage device is great. the fact you'll need 2 separate drives for each player seems daft. and even if you do get 2 drives and put all your tunes on both, it probably violates some crazy copyright law or something, although i guess it's no different that people burning 2 copies of CDs but just a thought.

be interesting to see how people react to it and seeing whether or not people bother to pay that extra over the cdj-200 for the extra features. i probably wouldn't. the press down jog wheel doesn't really impress me, could be kinda annoying.

Nice to see pioneer ringing out new stuff though rather than just playing it safe with just slightly updated versions of their units.

Now that i think about it..my CDJ 200s are fine. Unless I was planning to use Serato or something...I don't really need the USB/MIDI functionality. Nice to have..but not a necessity. Burning MP3 CDs is fine with me. That's what a CDJ is originally intended for (playing CDs) not being used as a controller for digital programs.
