the mass shootings are the result of rants against society, with actions facilitated by many variables: cultural, technological, bullying, marginalization, gun accessibility, mass media exposure to violence, etc.
With the media coverage of these incidents, particularly the internet which allows these murderers to become deeply inspired in absolute privacy, you will probably see more of these atrocities in the future.
The 1989 Montreal massacre (probably one of the worse ones imo) didn't occur when the internet was as prevalent as today. However, and not surprisingly, America is one of the most wired nations in the world. But that's just one of the variables, keep that in mind.
Kids are more marginalized and isolated in western society than in others as well. This is due, imo, to techological factors, as well as social ones. There is a social disconnect within families and communities for sure due to technology (among other factors). Personally, I'm sick of having to email, text, and facebook ppl in my own city even.
It makes you shake your head. That said, the US is still much safer than many countries in the middle east, south america, africa, etc. More than anything else these are copycat incidences. |

Leading to many individuals who are totally falling into these cracks of the social system, becomming completely unaware, and living their lives in a haze of self-loathing.
In some ways, I want to be angry at this guy, and at his utter stupidity, but the more and more of these that you hear about, you begin to wonder. What worries me is that in the last few years there seems to be a spreading mentality amongst Canadian youth with very similar social problems as exhibited by their US siblings. IMO, it may not be as bad, but we seem to be heading that way ourselves. As people have mentioned, Montreal did have a few of these massacres allready.
