Say what you will about Musharref - the government hasn't toppled. I think the initial attack when Bhutto returned and now this show that her government (if elected) would have been very tenuous, and probably temporary.

The farther we come, the more Musharref reminds me of Mobutu, who was certainly a tyrant, but when he was ousted, the Congo exploded in war. I don't think the world can afford that in Pakistan. Which kind of leaves us with no clear solution there right now.

Our media like media anywhere else in the world is essentially owned by a few conglomorates or major corporations. It's as full of it as anywhere else in the world. But it's a nice thing to see someone recognize propaganda for what it is, weather it's pro or con a policy, person, or idea. I think most people do at some level but for whatever off reason choose to ignore the elephant in the living room. No one likes to rock the boat when they have something to loose.

I don't know whether Benazir Bhutto was popular with the Pakistani people. At least the media projected her to be, and also predicted that she would have won the elections. Why would Al-Qaeda eliminate her ? Surely that would be detrimental to their interests in Pakistan, considering that their top order is alleged to be hiding somewhere in the country.
