LoL... as much as I laughed at that photo, lets not forget that Armin has (despite his recent rapid show decline) done a lot for the Trance scene. :P

This was my favourite... 125, second hour. He'd hardly play tunes like Tetraflux - Okinawan today.

21.00-22.00 Armin Van Buuren Non-stop in the mix
01 Tetraflux Okinawan Touché
02 Valentino Flying (Sultan & The Greek rmx) Shinichi
03 Perry O'Neil Breaking Away Electronic Elements
04 Anthanasia Perfect Wave Electronic Elements
05 Sarah McLachlan Fallen (Gabriel & Dresden anti-gravity mix) Nettwerk
06 Mark Otten Tranquility Armind
07 Inner And Outer Reaching Captivating Sounds
08 Li Kwan Point Zero 2004 (Matt Darey rmx) Darey Products LTD

ummm.. that's not helping your case

the set paulandrews posted looks better but it's basically all the same idea

to address Ishkur on what he wrote:

I think ASOT has changed a little because of the way the show gets and selects its music. Not that he wasn't always promoting certain outfits, but I get the feeling that it is almost entirely a game of cheesy marketing and politics today, whereas before it might have just been cheesy because Armin has cheesy taste

definitely... but somehow I thought everyone agreed that it was pretty good at the start. My point was to show that even in the middle of it the tracklists were much better selections of music, though of course some may not agree...

Hey people take it easy. So, all epic trance its cheesey now? Lets be serious there were some great trance tunes and Armin used to create some top-notch melodic trance compilations and at times-a few- productions. Were "Clear Blue Moon" and "Star Theme" cheesy? FFS they had long lead-lines, they were quite musical.Everything that is musical and has an emotional melody is cheesy and poppy now? Lets be serious...

Yeah, Armin sucks BIG TIME now, but that doesn't change the fact that he had promoted and produced some great melodic EDM in the past.

what I wrote was that before IF (emphasis on the conditional) some tracks were cheesy, you could blame it more on armin's taste, whereas now the playlist is more a function of the politics of his publicity machine

I wasn't making a comment on what I thought of the music he played. You can probably guess, but I don't think it's going to help this particular discussion, so I don't want to get into it.

I doubt anyone is really proposing that all epic trance is cheesy; just the vast majority, as with all of the different sub-styles of trance and all edm in general.

Some of the greatest tracks from the past have been epic, imho.

Airwave, under his alias Lolo, makes a lot of trance tracks which are very good productions, just to contradict your statement. And to make something clear, I am not saying Armin is bad or anything (I speak for myself however), it's just that his show has declined in quality, which is disappointing because I was a dedicated listener of his show.
