Intel is also behind HDDVD in case you forgot.

Sony has too many restrictions on their blu ray licences, for independent studios its a nightmare. Plus HDDVD has no regions, another big plus.

honestly, there is no difference between HD DVD & Blu-Ray. They are virtually identical. I would say that 99% of the consumers wouldn't even be able to tell the difference using their naked eye.

And yes, HD >> DVD. Only people who've never watched anything in HD would say that their is no point in owning an HD format.

I honestly can't even watch SD TV or SD DVD's anymore cause the quality/audio is horrible.

I only watch HDTV (only watch SDTV if I'm forced too) and only watch HD movies, or at worst watch the SD version upconverted on my PS3.

Oh, and Jay,

I have the 360 add-on for HD DVD and the PS3 for Blu-Ray..both are amazing for the price.

I am pretty much in the same position you are minus the PS3 of course. The 360 add on was nothing more than a short term solution for me and was pissed that they have never gotten around to having the player play TrueHD tracks. At best too this will do 1080i not that there really is a difference. At least with PS3 though it does just about everything you'd want minimally from a stand alone Bluray player. Another major reason for the better bluray backing.

I think the major reasoning that most studios have gone bluray is because of what it has presently done and what it will be able to do, there is a future flexibility to it which studios and directors like. Just see what Spielberg and Bay have to say. I currently own a Sony BD player S-1 and also getting the Panasonic BD30.

And this might swing the porn industry to HD DVD. Whoever wins over porn will probly be the dominant player, which was proven before by VHS over Betamax. Betamax was a better format, just like BluRay is now, but the pron was with them.

And there is definitely a Huge difference between upconverted 480p (Standard DVD) vs 1080p. If you say otherwise, I think you haven't seen it for yourself yet, or weren't using the proper equipment or setting.

yeah it may just go all reverse with the porn industry going HD dvd. I mean HD DVD still has major players such as microsoft and HP,intel etc. and also HD DVD is cheaper , i would rather pay less money on a media format than more until it becomes a standard. But either way the war will only be won by one which will take years

So far in this thread most of the major supporters of HD-DVD have been technology companies, Toshiba, MS, HP, and Intel. That is fine, but in the end they are not the ones putting actual content on the medium.

It should be the studios that battle it out, because they are the ones that have to sell titles, not the tech companies.

If the studios are supporting BD, and the tech companies are supporting HDdvd, then BD will win, because they sell product, not Intel, or Toshiba.

Then again, there's the Conspiracy theory by Michael Bay. He thinks that the whole format war is fueled by M$ in order to create such a confusion and frustration that HD Electronic delivery will be hailed as a saviour once they released it.

This is a third option I'm really hoping pans out. Like I said before, I've really been downloading 90% of my HD content so far. TV shows, movies, etc. There's no need to worry about BD vs HD DVD player when all I need to play any movie is my laptop and VLC. LOL.

I do feel kinda bad for my X360 add-on though. Just sitting there the past couple of months while I'm feeding the TV everything from my external HDD. Maybe I'll buy some classics soon to feed it a bit.
