Ferrari is going to ruin the field this year.

quote:
The world champion’s best lap of 1m30.595s was two seconds faster than the best effort recorded during last year’s race weekend at Sakhir as he completed a full grand prix simulation.

http://www.itv-f1.com/News_Article.aspx?PO_ID=41734

And its true!

2007 Bahrain GP Fastest Laps
Friday 1st Practice - Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari 1:33.162
Friday 2nd Practice - Kimi Räikkönen Ferrari 1:33.527
Saturday Practice - Lewis Hamilton McLaren-Mercedes 1:32.543
Qualifying - Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:31.359 (Q2)
Race - Felipe Massa Ferrari 1:34.067 (L 42)

See Ferrari have improved on their race pace by 3.5 seconds, and improved over their qualifying time by a second!

Bahrain times vary too much depending on the weather conditions (like stren said, Massa did a 1:29 in testing, then in the GP the best times were 2 seconds slower). I don't think those are any good for judging whether the new Ferrari is quick or not.

Couple of new cars have been presented, latest the Force India, looks like a bad attempt at putting "bling" into a F1 car. I like the Honda's new look, although testing has proved that car is seriously slow.

Sweet. I would love to see Toyota and Honda both leave F1 due to such poor performance.

I'd be with you if there'd be new independent teams queuing up to take their place. Since the idea of customer cars died, nobody's willing to spend the massive budget needed to start an F1 team from scratch, to almost certainly spend years as a backmarker. And I'd rather have soulless manufacturers like Honda and Toyota with different cars, than independent teams running more McLarens and Ferraris.

Guys, i'm looking for some advice...

I've been watching F1 on tv since 2003 so a friend and i have decided to attend a GP this year (our first) but don't know which one would be best. I'm in the UK and were looking to stay inside Europe but we don't want to go to the British one.

Im currently in my last year of university, so can only go after i finish. i.e. after June 1st to the following circuits (non-european excluded):

Round 8 - 22nd June - France, Magny-Cours
Round 9 - 6th July - Great Britain, Silverstone
Round 10 - 20th July - Germany, Hockenheim
Round 11 - 3rd August - Hungary, Hungaroring
Round 12 - 24th August - Europe, Valencia
Round 13 - 7th September - Belgium, Spa Francorchamps
Round 14 - 14th September - Italy, Monza

So basically were trying to decide which of the above to go to, but have no idea as watching on tv is probably completely different from actually being there.

Has anyone been to any of the the above? Can you recommend any (and for what reasons)? what factors should we base our decision on?

Thanks for any help.

I'd choose whatever is still available

Spa is pretty economical in terms of price, Monaco and Monza, most expensive

/ so I've heard, never been to a GP though

I've heard the Hungaroring has a cool atmosphere since folks from all the countries around Hungary invade the place, and there's supposedly places from where you can see almost the entire track. Not that it's that much of a big advantage since nothing ever happens at the Hungaboring.

But that's just what I've heard, I have no idea really.

I'd suggest these three:

Round 10 - 20th July - Germany, Hockenheim
- Awesome track, good racing, high speeds.
- Huge fan turn out, crazy atmosphere.

Round 13 - 7th September - Belgium, Spa Francorchamps
- Amazing track.
- Cool elevation changes.
- Great racing.

Round 14 - 14th September - Italy, Monza
- Tefosi.
- Super high speeds.
- Tefosi.
- Good racing.

My choices would be:

#1 Spa - legendary track and close to home (for me )
#2 Hockenhiem - Zee Germans know how to party. Track isn't as good as the old layout, but it'll do. I would rather they ran at the 'Ring, but that's next year
#3 Hungary - no particular reason other than I think it would be a fun party, and the compact-ish track layout could let you see more of the race if you got the right spot.
#3 (tie) Spain - see Hungary

I wouldn't bother with Magny Cours - it's in the middle of nowhere and there's no party. If the press and the teams say it's boring as fuck (and they have all the cool access) then it must be boring
