Yes, they take tax, but it's more of a convenience fee than anything else. It doesn't make much sense to use it when you only have a handful of change, but when you have such a ridiculous amount of coins to cash in, I'd much rather get hit with the tax then spend the next three weeks rolling them up.

I don't believe that California banks accept loose change, and require them to be in rolls before they can be traded for bills.
