I use optical drive's all the time. Promo material comes through post all the time on CD format.

I often throw a DVD to watch on a plane etc.

Install CD's come on CD/DVD format, video games for those who play, etc.

I'm just saying for those who don't want to use the remote access applications this device comes with or only have this computer as their primary system it's not as effective.

Edit:

Looks like we have another flaw here:

MacBook Air SuperDrive can only be used with MacBook Air

Apple has decided to hobble the MacBook Air SuperDrive. Despite being a USB device which should work with any Mac or even PC, it will only work with the MacBook Air. A call in to Apple has confirmed that the system requirements listed online are correct, and a MacBook Air is required to use the drive.

Think about how thin this unit is ... there will be no room for proper cooling.

the same trash that tried and tested for professional applications responsible for a good percentage of all your favorite music, movies, television shows, magazines, ect?

Huh? I'm not really sure what you're saying here.

I'm saying that they are not trash, and macs are the trusted tools of many professionals in the music, film and television (sound and video), and graphic design fields.

What’s up with calling this beauty a trash? It surely is released in a very wrong time; maybe in 2 years when SSD are cheap, intel has faster and cooler processors and optical drives are obsolete, but the question is how else can they make apple fanboys to upgrade their perfectly fine macbook and macbook pros to buy something new and expensive?

In those fields apple is a much bigger monopoly than Microsoft, emagic being the perfect example, and that's not something to be proud of.
