dude you can't compare shitchenko to ronaldinho.....shitchenko was the biggest mistake, again a case of the clubs owner getting too involved in player selection. I reckon ronaldinho would do well playing in the EPL.

As if. The simple fact is that certain players don't fit in certain leagues. How do you know Ronaldinho will fit in well in the EPL? That's what they thought about Scheva but it didn't work out which is a shame because he is easily one of the best strikers in the world. He just needs to go back to Italy or even Spain.

Joan Laporta has said that Ronaldinho won't be going anywhere and he is pretty adament about it. The fans would call for his head if he let it happen, he is still regarded well at the club and he just needs time to re-gel. If he doesn't come good by the end of the season then the fans might think otherwise but right now he needs time and the fans understand this, so does Laporta.

I think if he were to leave to the EPL, he wouldn't do well because the EPL is not his style. EPL is about the physical game, the longball tactics (ball is usually in the air more than the pitch) and midfield is usually skipped by the defenders who just "hoof" the ball from the back to the strikers. It's quite lame. There are a few teams in the EPL who don't play with this type of system (the longball tactic) and they are the top4 clubs (Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal) and basically whenever they play clubs like Derby or Sunderland who have just been promoted to the EPL, they get drubbed 6-0, or 5-0. Derby always gets pumped, they conceed soo many goals and Sunderland are sort've similar, they always lose. Derby is struggling to get wins on the board. So is Sunderland even though they had a mediocre start to the season.

Now look at la Liga, and all 3 teams (Murcia, Almeria and Valladolid) give the top teams in la Liga a run for their money. Just this week, Madrid lost 0-2 to Almeria. In la Liga, teams don't get expected to be conceeded 6-0 defeats like they do in the EPL. Yes sometimes you have some games in la Liga that are very one-sided but those are really rare and don't happen week in week out like some of the bottom table clubs in EPL experience on a weekly basis. Also look at the UEFA Cup, a competition for mid-table clubs of European leagues. Spanish la Liga clubs dominate that competition, why? Because the football they play is technically superior to that of EPL. Serie A is also another good league where teams are technically far better to those of the EPL clubs.

Arsenal play beautiful football, but compared to the beautiful futebol played by Barcelona, they are miles behind. Most la Liga clubs play a similar type of football style Arsenal play but because the EPL is soo heavily commercialised and everyone in the world see Arsenal week in week out they think Arsenal play the best football in the world, but I'll tell you there are hundreds of other teams who produce that same style weekly and they are clubs in la Liga, Serie A, and leagues from South America with teams like River Plate, Boca Juniors, Gremio, Sao Paolo, Cruzerio etc.

/end rant

he's only there by association, I don't rate him as ever being the best, there are many more that make shiva look like a junior.

Below is why he's at chelsea, pure and simple. he's getting paid well, is in one of the top 3 clubs in england, always injured, thinking of retirement. If he is as good as you 'think' he is, why doesn't he go back to AC Milan and start scoring some goals? I don't believe he can cut it anymore.

taken from Shivchenko's website:

Was Shevchenko ill-treated at Chelsea

05 Oct 2007

Andriy Shevchenko’s wife, Kristen Pazik is a close friend of Chelsea owner Abramovich’s wife and it is rumored that she [Kristen Pazik] influenced Shevchenko’s move to Chelsea from AC Milan much to the disliking of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho. Andriy Shevchenko earned the hatred of Chelsea manager as he failed to adapt to the English conditions and more specifically to Jose Mourinho’s style of play and as such couldn’t perform to his full potential. As a result Andriy Shevchenko was sidelined and sat out the next game. People began finding out reasons for his sit out. Some thought he had a groin injury while others thought he was supposedly hurt by the treatment meted out to him at Chelsea.

When Sports Illustrated questioned Andriy Shevchenko, “Do you feel the club has done in its power to support you this season? ” He bluntly said, “No”.

Jose Mourinho too more or less spoke on the same wavelength. He was quoted in The Guardian dated January 24th, 2007 saying, “Sometimes you kiss and sometimes you kick,” and added further, “What I do with him [Shevchenko] is what I do with every player. It doesn’t matter if he cost Ł30m, another Ł30,000. The players have to work and perform. If they work and perform I love them. If they don’t work and perform I hate them.”

He was bought in by Abramovich because he wanted him...that was it. Jose didn't rate him at all as a player dude and did not want him at all!....do some reading before ranting your ill informed personal opinions.

you know that's a good point Nick. I reckon they have a good chance as individual players (because they're great players playing for good clubs abroad) but as a team together, we'll have to wait and see.

someone explain to me why Tierry Henry who is an outstanding striker (is on the 1st's as main striker with Anelka for France's WC squad) is always played as a left winger for Barcelona??? These are things that annoy me about manager's/coach's that place players like this. He's a waste there.

I believe he'll eventually finish his years back at arsenal....that's the talk on the street anyway: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19...3033700,00.html
