Yeah. Nagel is one of the best prose writers among modern philosophers, but I don't think his philosophy of mind and epistemology are really all that sharp. His political philosophy is better, though.

Umm..AIDS doesn't kill you. Other diseases kill you. AIDS just compromises your immune system.
You've basially just said the same thing I have, except I didn't distinguish between HIV+ and HIV- because well frankly, I expected people to know the difference.

No not really. Probably due to eating monkeys as that's an easy way to transmit disease between species but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me if someone did catch it from fuckin a monkey. Some people are just sick and that would have a similar if not same effect as eating a raw monkey brain.
