sean tyas productions are bullshit. technicall skills are good, creative skills, almost non existant. without creative skill, technical skills are lifeless. id rather have a rough around the edges track with superb melodies than anal compression and sheen.

an example of this is any classic tune tyas has remixed: NONE of them are better than the original. they are all harden up which takes the life out of them. there no need for hard kicks in trance.

u will notice great producers like ferry corsten each production is (technically) better than the last, but they are always magic and gave you goosebumps. (once a regular occurence in trance - wonder what happened!!)

reading manuals is essencial to be able to work creatively!

first you must know how your gear works. after that, you can decide what to do with it !
learning by doing generally is a good approach but when you work with music and you literally have every possibility in the world, it´s good to be limited.

learn the rules so you know how to break them

he entered an amateur remix competition (punked) and won even though he already had a record out.. and then shamelessly desecrated evey classic under the sun for maximum exposure.

There's nothing abnormal about the above question(s) that were put to Tyas and I don't think he 'dodged' any of the questions put to him. If someone asks me a series of questions in one swift sentence, it's normally the last question that I'll focus on and I'll be inclined to answer it first.

Nothing really strange about that.

I started listening to trance in '98 and have loved every so-called evolution that's taken place within the scene. If anything, the period I disliked the most was from 2003-2005. There were gems back then and there are gems now that will be defined as classics when this era has passed. Your average producer is technically better than they used to be because the advance in technology and use of computer software have become more and more popular outlets for creating music. Producing has become more easily accessible to most now, and with the upturn in people creating in digital formats, the competition is fierce nowadays with very little to choose between artists now.

You have to read manuals. Imitate to innovate as they now say. If every producer started from scratch and didn't read a single article on production, they may be more creative, but the innovation would be lost in a muddy production.

I´ve noticed it myself. When I started producing back before I studied sound engineering, I tended to say I "learn by doing". But nevertheless, the results were somewhat...well..bad...
Then after I learned everything and developed an understanding for how music works and how synthesizers work, I was able to produce the music I wanted to produce.

Nevertheless, you can´t make yourself a good producer by reading. Experience is the most important thing.

But in the end, everything you do is limited by what you know. And if you know your equipment very well you will be able to tell how to make the most out of it...

you are a fucking ******. I dont see any of your shit tracks feature on armin's a state of trance episodes or cds. The fact is , sean tyas's tracks are simply amazing and truly inspirational. His track one more night has one of the sickest drops i have ever heard in my life. I love tyas's melodies, production skills, and just everything about his tracks. They really inspire me to produce banging tracks of my own. In fact, when I am mixing ... i always a/b compare to his sound because in my opinion he has achieved a killer sound quality.

Stop bashing on sean tyas because he has made it and you havent you fucking loser.
