Other than the regular events we have in clubs, we also have festivals in the pyramids (egypt) and deserts(jordan)
15,000 people showed up to Tiesto's gig last year in lebanon (small country with a small population) and no matter how politicaly unstable the country is, the biggest djs keep coming back because "the middle eastern" crowd is always ready to party it up.
However, Syria is a tyranny and it's all about politics not religion. these events are associated with drug use, and allowing them to take place would look like they're encouraging that = making the govt look bad. the threats were probably planned intentionally.
again FYI:

So true you hit the right buttons on that one, I don’t want to overdue myself here, but the middle east has some of the sickest clubs and parties in the world. i would say a country like egypt or Lebanon is comparable to the Toronto scene in numbers... I’ve partied and spun in the middle and even someone of my level of popularity did a 1000 people mailroom last summer in Jordan … were talking thousands of people partying in rave like clubs on a regular bases all over with amazing sound and lighting that could put many clubs here to shame… just my two cents.

I’m not even gonna rip at AustralianGQ... i just feel bad for him now, lets not make fun of him anymore... (i just now this is going to lead to more owning) lol

just wanted to add something...
i believe it's ridiculous that there's no Middle East section on this website..is it up to a certain number of ppl to decide if there's an edm scene in some countries and not in others.
Every single name on the dj mag list you guys have posted on the main page of tranceaddict has been to the middle east. enough said, there's a huge number of middle eastern edm fans in north america and all around the world so countries that have an active scene, like Dubai, lebanon, egypt and jordan deserve to have a say on tranceaddict.
cheers
