Just off Yonge on a quiet residential street, 10 minute walk to either Lawrence or York Mills subways, 24hr yonge bus, 25 minutes to downtown.

1 bedroom basement apt in a house, seperate entrance, utilities incl.

Rent $620.

It's a fucking steal!

Thats a great location, and a damn good deal for the area!

It also depends on whether you have to pay for go_transit AND subway/TTC.

If an average TA had a choice of paying 1000 for 1 bedroom in Missisauga, vs 1200 for 1 bedroom somewhere in the dt-core, I think that average TA would choose 'sauga.

Many people don't consider the costs to pay when using GO. I think a trip from somewhere in 'Sauga on a monthly basis is around $120, no? All of a sudden, the difference between downtown and boonies is only $80 - not bad. Factor in the fact that in the dt-core you can actively take the subway anywhere, and don't need to own a car at all, and it somehow actually works out to be the same or cheaper than living in the boonies. Why? Because downtown, you can purchase a monthly TTC pass and use it throughout. In 'Sauga, you must own a car. I really don't know anybody there that is able to get away without using a car at least twice a week.

I was able to do it actually. You just have to be active. I found the best way to get around sauga is to walk/bus/BIKE where ever you need to go. Lived in sauga most of my life, and I have never had a car, and I don't want one anytime soon.

Yes living in TO without a car is easier, but it can be done in Mississauga.

Meh...It's also what you want your life style to be as well. Personally I can't live without a car. When I lived downtown I always felt kinda trapped because I would have to rent a car on the weekends if I wanted to go to Kelso or hardwood hills or out of the Toronto core and be stressed to get it back on time, and paying 80 bucks a weekend for a car gets expensive. I love cycling and mountain biking, if I lived in the downtown core(which I have for three years) I have to pay way more for car insurance, pay way more for the privilege of parking, and having three bikes I would need more storage space and square footage which is way more more in the toronto core.

Bought a Condo in Oakville and couldn't be happier. I can go into downtown core anytime, and have the freedom to drive anywhere, anytime, anyday and not restricted to TTC routes or strikes.

Anyway just my two cents... To the original poster, High Park is probably the best value in Toronto for renting. You can find a nice place for under a grand a month in a nice safe area *edit* oh you found a place, congrats...hope you like it

I was just going to say the same thing. I guess it depends on what way she's taking. It usually takes me 45+ min to get downtown from Yorkdale when I'm up around those areas..and I live downtown. to get to Dupont HAS to be less. Not including the walk to the school.

Maybe the subway up to Yonge/Bloor --> across to St. George then up might be quicker.

coming home takes about 25-30 minutes walking included.
its in the damn mornings. when the stupid thing stops for like 5 mins at every single stop.. thats why it takes so long .. ugh

why not try this. Since u're close to Queen (?) take the streetcar to Osgoode, then straight up. The Queen streetcar comes super frequent in the mornings...and the train Northbound from Osgoode is virtually empty. It will def. take u less time to get to school.
