there is a huge difference between espresso and coffe. its not just about the caffiene. some people actually drink coffee for more then the buzz.

Holler that brother
I've recently been getting my latte made with soy milk
...creamy frothy wonder with a sprinkle of vanilla on top

PS. The guy at my local espresso shop told me that coffee has more caffeine than espresso... the idea that espresso will give you more of a "buzz" is a myth... its flavour is just more potent. I had no idea

If you want a cappuccino, which would then require steamed milk, then yes, you need something else. But then he should have said he was looking to make cappuccinos, not espressos.

I'm sorry that the 75 year old Bialetti doesn't live up to your culinary Nazi standards, but for home made espresso, this device works fine for millions.

yeah well, if your like me, you dont want an attempt at imitation with something that is just that. an attempt. do it right or dont do it at all. none of this "-like" shit. i want it proper or not at all.

That's fine. I do prefer espresso from a machine, but I have yet to find a place in the US that doesn't burn the shit out of it and I'm not about to drop a couple G's (at this point in my life) for a real espresso machine. Besides, there's something to be said for the ease and simplicity of making stovetop espresso...it's something I grew up around, so I'm sure that's part of it.

I'm just saying for the average guy who wants espresso (albeit stovetop espresso), the stovetop method is a reasonable alternative to very expensive machines or Starbuck's "espresso," which I feel is even farther away from true espresso than what the stovetop variety is. I'd rather have stovetop espresso made with good coffee (Kimbo FTW), over the burnt stuff you find in the US.

i just dont settle and i advise other not to. save a bit longer and get what you want, not just some stop gap effort for the interim. most of the time you just end up spending more in the short (6m-1yr) and long run.

and starbucks is some of the lowest quality grains you can get anyways. they hide that with a ton of flavor.

also for those coffee drinkers out there, the lighter the roast the higher the caffeine content. the darker the roast the lower the caffeine content.

That's going to probably be my first home machine (cup warmer is a must), but med school debt means I'll happily "settle" for my Bialetti...for now.

what do you mean by 'flavor'...?

like flavored espresso drinks? i know there is a lot of inconsistency when it comes to what starbucks practices and what they proclaim. talented individuals are pretty rare at a bucks, but if you have someone that cares about *how* to pull shots properly the taste profile is there.

i cant remember where i read it, but they were talking about how they actually get the stuff the higher quality companies (ie: dietrichs) dont want.

and i do agree that most starbucks employees dont care.

get a part time job at Starbucks, then borrow one of their nice coffee makers and espresso machines from the back, and then forget to return it as u quit the next day.

Nespresso machines are awesome. I love ours. Just enough in a cup and the best bit is it's consistently great coffee.
