| quote: | Hate to use cliches, but they're appropriate for tonight. The Devils came out with passion, determination, emotion, and persistance. They out hustled the Rangers, won loose puck battles, created more turnovers, earned scoring chances and just plain beat the Rangers up along the boards. The were the faster and more energized team. That's not to say the Rangers didn't show up. They did some nice things as well. A few nice scoring setups, some nice cycles...but that's really it. It wasn't domination, but the Devils were the better team today and they win this type of game 19 times out of 20. We also had so many more chances that were wide or over the net.
The first goal was suspect. Brodeur lets that shot in far too often. I know it was a light screen but you can't let that goal go through you like that. Marty has to cover up down low. The second goal was a disaster and a fluke. No need to rehash it. The third goal from what I can remember was kind of a broken play/flukey bounce that ended up in front and was cashed in by Avery. Game was likely over by that point anyway.
We hit three posts today, three fvcking posts! And I know the Rags hit one but that was a long shot by Jagr that probably was closer to outside of the net (I didn't hear a ping). Brylin and Ashams posts were coming right in on Lundqvist, the Rags D broke down many times today and we were an inch away from taking advantage (Elias at the end of the 2nd comes to mind). The Rangers at the start of the third period were RUNNING SCARED. We literally outshot them 9-0 until the Callahan fluke. They were wearing down, they didn't have their legs.
And when the hell is Zubrus getting a break? Perfect laser beam beats Lundqvist clean and it's another one off the iron! I know it was 3-1 at that point, but a few minuteslater we get a 2 on 0 down low with I believe Langs and Parise. What the hell, the Rags were sloppy in there own zone all game!
So let them get it out of their system. Let all the Rag fans hoot and holler (psst, it's game 1 morons). Let Sam Rosen and newly converted homer zombie Joe Micheletti heap undeserved praise upon the inferior, lucky Rangers. Please, build them up some more!
We're not going to lose this series if we keep playing like this. The Rangers are going to get beat up and worn down if the Devils keep coming the way they do. |
From a very wise Devils fan on the Devs forum..... Be careful how you treat this win, guys. If I recall, the Devils were a team with an absolutely shitty offense this year, and we hit four posts last night. Next game, one or more of those go in, and we've got the game. I was embarassed last night, but going into next game, it's not even pride that is keeping me positive, it's the fact that we dominated most of the game, and like they always do, the Rangers got lucky. Sure, take the win, luck's part of the game. But you won't come back to The Rock and win game 2.
