Haha
I used vinyl from 2001 until 2007.
First thing I got in 07 was Traktor Scratch, using Vinyl Emulation.
Then I sold that last month and bought the M-Audio Torq Xponent.
OH MAN IT'S LIGHT. Easy to set up. SOOO portable. I used to hate CD player type controllers or CD players in general, but man now I'm used to it and it's just awesome.

Call me crazy but I actually downgraded to vinyl, partly beacuse I have had very bad experiances with the Numark CDN95 Dual CD player, in less then a year one of the CD drives failed, I took it in to get it fixed, and whithin a month it failed again, and the other CD drive is following the same fate, so now i use Numark TTXUSB's and i have gotten nothing but love from them, they are th most reliable peices of gear I have, and IMO vinyl is alot easier for me to use then CD, probably beacuse I have had so many problems with the CDN95 not working properly |
i did the same thing...went from CDs to vinyl...one reason is that there has been a big move to CDs, so it's actually a better time to go vinyl now...because following the crowd is not smart.
i spin both now.
it's like buying stocks: when everyone is buying, it really means that it's time to sell....

Stocks can actually go up in value though, your vinyl won't. I have a nice collection of vinyl from the last 7 years. But come on Vinyl is like 15 bucks. I can by 7 exclusive priced tracks on Beatport. It just makes no sense.
The other thread talks about how DJs get paid less, it's kind of a necessity too.
Sure Vinyl sounds better, but most people can't tell at a club. And you don't have to lug 50 lbs record bag around.

that may be true for dance because more lables are putting their stuff on CD and digital formats, but Im from THE BAY and I spin urban music, and most urban cuts that are DJ friendly are found on vinyl, from where I am in san jose anyways, plus I found a ton of unreleased tracks and stuff on vinyl
dont get me wrong, I LOVE dance music, but its not populer in san jose unfortunatly, but its an interesting thing that every dance paty i have DJ'ed at has been awsome, but only one or two urban parties have been good, and the rest were not that great
