Agreed. If you want somebody who actually does four-deck mixing on turntables and does it well, then go look at Jeff Milligan. The man is a genius and shits all over what Hawtin does.

I listened to it for a while and have to confess I don't really "get it" either. I guess I'm one of those untutored plebeians who likes his music to have at least a little melody.

Or Ben Sims.

Honestly, if I were someone who worked so hard at actually doing something interesting with that many decks I'd feel like all the credit Hawtin gets was a slap in the face.

Fair play to Hawtin though, he's managed to convince an entire generation of kids that anything his name graces is gold. There's something to be said for marketing.

Fuck - even Zabiela (who I'm sure many on here are infinitely fucked off with for playing Deadmau5 tunes, lol) is profoundly more talented than Hawtin when it comes to actually "working" the decks.

It just never ceases to amaze me how much credit people seem willing to give Hawtin for doing so little (at least the past few years - i.e. Plastikman notwithstanding).

I do enjoy his live sets.... but this recording was not good.

Not saying he is the best ever.

Lol, I didn't think you were - and I do think Hawtin has it in him to play a sound techno set live. I just also think all this pretentious m_nus nonsense is a load of overinflated shit, and if people actually discussed it in terms of what it actually is, instead of as this brilliant, hip, "only-accessible-if-you're-smart-enough-to-get-it" crap, I'd probably be here saying "You know what, Hawtin is pretty decent at what he does, though it's just not for me."

Instead, we've got m_nus going on a million weeks of silence in the name of minimal, Troy Pierce mouthing off about creating the concept "MNML", and a bunch of parties with hours and hours of the worlds most boring techno, and then Magda.

All of which makes me feel like this ->

Edit: Until Magda, and then I feel like this ->

yea its not a good mix. however. whats interesting is i hardly saw any shit talking about richie on any boards i visit, and then he grows a beard, takes a steaming dump and puts it in a box and mails it to RA, and the whole world goes into turmoil. its like the floodgates opened, people are either changing their opinion of hawtin overnight, or they're coming out in the open with their feelings that have been bottled up for some time.

You feel free to search every post I've ever made on TA that contains the word Hawtin and you'll see quite clearly that my opinion of him has never, ever been high.

And believe me, there are plenty of them for you to look through.

Went to the M_nus party during wmc and missed magda by 2 hours.... but from 1am till 6am it was bombs.com

There is a M_nus party coming up in LA, if someone goes id like to hear some reviews, the M_nus crew i think throws hot fire.

Now are they pretentious? I dunno...... i guess? I wouldnt know why they would be.
