Even so, if you're spending $30 on take away 'westernised' chinese food, then of course its going to be different than the average meal in china would cost, which is about $3 from memory and I've had the equivalent meal here for about $8 from a couple of restaurants that do it. Likewise you spend your $10 in China to get an expensive dish, it'll still be roughly the same as the $30 ones you get in your country.

I have NEVER spent $30 on take-out chinese food. I have only spent that at a sit down type asian restaurant. I wouldn't spend more than $5 or so for a good take-out from some mom and pop restaurant.

A £15 or $30 take out is fairly normal. Or $20 for post night club one, served with a free Chinese lesson you never remember.
