Hmm tricky question:

Lord of the Rings
Animal Farm is good, as is 1984 (George Orwell books)
Dale Brown writes EXCELLENT military fiction...
Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising <--- best book about a world war I've ever read!!

Catch-22 is probably the funniest book I've ever read.
To Kill a Mockingbird is OK, very thought provoking..
I know they're not really books, but Arthur Miller's The Crucible, and Death of a Salesman are also excellent reads...

You mentioned you liked Fantasy. I started reading the Fionavar Tapesty, by Guy Gavriel Kay (a canadian author). One of my trainees from work suggested it, but I could get more than 40 pages in, cause I found the story to be weak. Have you read it? If so, what do you think of it?
