Regardless, congrats.

final cut express on the macbook btw.
my workplace has a mac pro loaded with 10gb ram and final cut pro.

Vista has improved alot since it's release. Sp1 fixed alot of vista problems. Been using vista and osx tiger and both are great. For the people who said vista is not stable? I had my computer on for a month and it never crashed on me. I rarely use my apple laptop, it's great for what it is, but i find it limited compare to what pc has to offer software wize.

You can also build an pc and have leopard running fine on it, the seem can be done with apple with boot camp.

FFS, why do people keep saying this? There are more people that own Macs than PCs at my university. If there was going to be a zomgmackillervirus it would've already been made!

It's too bad that the people at your university means slightly less than jack shit when I'm talking about MS usage worldwide.

There are tons of viruses for macs, and I'd even go as far to say that mac viruses, though less common, are more destructive than most PC viruses, which tend to be more of a nuisance than anything else.

If anything is FFS its the fact that there are already iphone viruses out there. But wait a sec, I believe you were saying something funny about a topic you clearly aren't that well-informed about.

I just hate fanbois. They reek of ignorance. As previously mentioned, a pc can be just as stable as a mac as long as you don't have some fucking idiot at the keyboard. If they know what they are doing it is stable as hell. Mine is a great example, and I am sure Mikey Mike and a few others on TA I know are nerdy enough also, will vouch for.

If you love mac fine, but don't use the "stability" and "virus" bullshit. One of the key things to Apples appearance to have more stability is they support 1 set of hardware for each machine. There are no changes nor variations that aren't supported natively. So this leads to less support calls for "driver" issues.

Not to mention the reason that the number of mac virus' is low, is MARKET SHARE. A virus writer wants MAXIMUM damage, not 5 people.

Sam, to put this in perspective, should I care to mention the hacker conference that happened recently that the Mac was the FIRST to be hacked in a matter of minutes and Vista was only hacked after 3rd party software was installed? Yes that is right, VISTA is more secure than your precious Mac.

Apple hasn't had to write anything for security in so yeah, it's probably the most vulnerable to viruses if someone really felt like writing one for mac users. Which will probably happen soon given the fact that the mac userbase is growing by the day.

I own a macbook, but by no means do I think it's the best thing ever. If I really took the time to learn and utilize linux I would probably take that over mostly anything any day of the week. I've just had too many problems with Ubuntu and I am wayyyy too lazy to figure it all out. I appreciate linux for what it is and recognize it as about the most stable. I remember hearing about a guy who has a pc running slackware and he hasn't shut it down for the past decade. It's been connected to the internet the entire time and he uses it on a daily basis and nothing has ever crashed and he's never gotten a virus. Keep in mind though, they hardly ever release updates for slackware so the programs are a tad dated at best. But it's about the most stable OS out there and for free.
