i cant tell if ur being sarcastic or not but in short, Commercial radio stations pay royalties for each track played on the radio throughout the day to the record labels. Only tracks that are legally permitted to be played (in which case supplied by the labels with a royalty agreement set) are played.
There are 4 main labels in N America:
1. Warner Music Group
2. EMI
3. Sony BMG
4. Universal Music Group
any other label that exists is either independent or a sub label. Independent labels do not fall under the big 4 and usually dont have the funding to promote on the radio or if they do, they just dont get out there much (airplay and distribution)due to higher ups not wanting to. Independent labels can become sublabels which are smaller labels that have been picked by the big labels and get promotions and distrubution handled by them and give a large portion of profits to the big label.
Electronic labels are either independent or sub of course. example of Sub label = Astralwerks which has the likes of Chemical brothers and friends which is under EMI. the deadmau5's label (maustrap is it?) thats independent and well its hard to promote an independent label without some backing nor would it be able to come up with royalty fee agreements (remember...commercial radio MUST pay royalty fees for a track each time its played) without being somewhat known...off late deadmaus has proven to be a big hit in the electronic scene so its given the label backing to push for this and hence why only now his track has been released on the radio (usually the label picks the most likely track to score high points with the audience as the first one)
now i hope u were not sarcastic cos i just spent 5 minutes writing this |
nono i was serious i diddnt know all that...thanks for explaining
