Indeed, but the point of me asking how the price of a CD breaks down into the parts that go back to an artist/record company/publishing etc. was to find out just how much the "music" really costs.

I mean, if it boiled down that the music itself only costed 50p a go, per single track, then who really cares if a mere 50p guarantees them a high quality, high bitrate mp3, that is perfectly legal?

I have a fear that it may not be just 50p tho... does anybody know?

Cheers,

I do agree with you actually, because that is the way it should be ideally. The question is if it's possible or realistic, maybe in the future?

Cds are too focking expensive and knowing just a very little bit of the money you pay is going to the artist is frustrating.

Cheers mate!

KNOW what pisses me off the most????

is how all these organizations keep closing down P2P sharing sites and acting like we are commiting a huge crime...

BUT....what pisses me off the most is how all the time on the news and in the newspaper thats all u hear about the internet ..how kids get their music off the internet and the poor fucking artists who lives in a 40 million dollar home and some rich record executive who drives a MAserati didnt get pain as much this year....bug fucking deal.....

heres the BIG PISSER...u hear MORE about shutting down P2P sites then u do about stopping all fucking weirdo child molestors who surf the net sharing their KIDDY PORN...

that makes me laugh that all these joke of organizations go after MP3s yet no where near as half go after child porn....

something is wrong there.....is the bank account of some artist or record exec MORE important then protecting are children?????

What really makes me angry is that it's the RIAA's own fault that nobody wants to pay for music anymore. Firstly, the RIAA and it's Euro counterpart have been price-fixing for years. Consider you can buy a blank cd for 50 cents. They obviously buy in bulk, thus the CD itself probably costs less than 10 cents. Add in a few dollars per CD for shipping, promotion etc, and bingo there's at least $10 profit from every CD.

no shit i totally agree with whoever this was (Sorry cant Remember the guy who said it :P first page ) its bullshit try not fucking making everything so damn fucking expensive and wel suppourt the artist.... fucking how much suppourt does he need the **** probably has someone to clean his ass in the morning! FUCK YOU RIAA!

Now there's a big panic to get everything worthwhile downloaded before AG closes or blocks 90% of tracks Who knows ... there may never be another file sharing service which has almost all trance tracks. It's so frustrating and ironic that all pop songs and trance hits which the record industry wants to block will still be available on some other p2p service, but the rare tracks will disappear from the public entirely.

Besides, this is also going to affect adversely unknown trance producers who now have less opportunity to get their music available to fans. Their music has been getting attention mainly when the tracks have been included on the CD mixes and live sets of underground DJs. Because of limited press size, and little marketing hype, these CDs have been available to only a handful of people in the DJ's own country. But thanks to AG, people elsewhere have been able to obtain copies of tracks and even entire mixes on mp3.

Another potential way to get attention have been the features of upcoming producers on trance www sites. But now the site administrators will not be able to learn about unknown promising trance producers through mp3s. So there will be less feature articles on www. I'm afraid this is going to make the trance scene more commercial because only the established producers and big-hype CDs will find their way to to trance fans.

well put.

i would miss SOOOO much trance if AG shuts down.

As I say, there are plenty enough people out there to keep the scene flourishing - a new medium may just need to be found. It'll be an arse, but just requires a bit of organisation.
