It's basically a visual programming language for sound that lets you work with audio "objects" like oscillators and signal generators in a really flexible way. You can build synths, sequencers, effects, and basically anything else that lets you manipulate audio, modulation, or MIDI signals. It's sort of like Reaktor.

Sort of. Except you can only use the VSTs that you program in Max/MSP.

Not exactly true: you can ReWire Max/MSP into a host sequencer similarly to how you would with Reason.

Wrong. It takes two noobs, spins them round at nearly the speed of light and collides them together.

I've heard of that as well.

I've only really been working with it for a few days now, so that's probably too advanced for me. So far I've just been playing with some of the included patches, not creating my own synths and stuff.

Processing a highly structured and complex pattern of sensory input as a unified percept of "music" is probably one of the most elaborate features of the human brain.....understanding how music is perceived and how it may elicit intense sensations is far from being understood.

Sawright, I laughed

In my ebay ing windowshopping fantasies I recently bought a Nord lead 3, Virus Ti, Prophet 08, Roland Fantom G, Vsynth XT, Max 5, K&H o300s and Blofeld... In reality I bought an echo indigo PCMCIA card and a new Novation Remote Sl 37. The Echo arrived today, I think it sounds amazing, but waiting for tomorrow so I can mix a real DJ set before I make any final judgements.
