James Brooke :
James Brooke’s interest in dance music was spiked at the mere age of 12. Previously immersed in more alternative sounds, his older sister exposed him to a different style of music. BT ‘Movement in Still Life”, Prodigy “Fat of the Land”, and Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto were on constant rotation at home. Once hearing this, James was hooked.
At age 16 he sold his bass guitar, left the band he was involved in and went out and purchased some decks and a mixer and taught himself how to mix. Inspired by local gun’s Phil K and Nubreed, James initial genre of choice was breaks. However, feeling the urge to take his tastes and sets further, he started exploring many other genres and styles. He discovered he loved them all. Not content to pigeonhole himself into one box, James is now a very versatile DJ. Progressive, trance, psy and techno are mixed seamlessly together, making sure even the most fickle crowds are kept entertained and rocking.
The last two years have seen James arrival into the Melbourne dance scene. Rocking many of Melbourne’s top nightclubs such as Room680, Brown Alley, Circus, Viper Room, Chasers, 3D and many more. He has supported international DJ’s Tiesto, Christopher Lawrence, Thomas Bronzwaer, John 00 Fleming, Tyuoshi Suzuki, D.A.V.E the Drummer, Tenishia, Kuffdam and Chewn. He has played at Earthcore, Tickled Pink, Neon Electrik and Mapleheads. A regular at Interview, Stargarden and Kiss FM and also a favourite on Joy FM’s weekly Saturday night dance show “Vinylizum”. With residencies at room’s new trance night, Motion Sound Diaries, and the Nexus trance partys, this young talent is really beginning to establish himself as one of the local scene’s gems.
At the start of 2008 James started his own record label called 405 Recordings. It has already gained the support of many local and international dj’s, with names on the label such as, Bart Claessen, Bas & Ram, Maarten De Jong, Roy Gates, as well as local guns, Dave Stroud, Wavemotion and Marsh. Keep a close eye on this label as it is destined to do great things, the coming months should see a plethora of new talent added to the label.
Simon –
Simon started mixing about 10 years ago. He had the pleasure of picking up his first record and learning to mix with Carlos Martinez aka "Solrac” whilst also learning the ropes with respected Dj and Producer James Rudd. After a few years of practicing together Simon was ready to break the club scene.
Break the club scene is exactly what he did with numerous residencies and guest appearences at Flirt @ 11a, Sundayz @ 161, lab, 4 Senses @ Colonial Hotel, Deep 11, Brown Alley, Messy Creations Grand Voyuer NYE @ Army Barraks in Seymour, Welcome 2003 @ Vodafone Arena, Knufunk @ Velvet Lounge, Panik @ Velvet Lounge, Two Floors up, Alumbra, Mango, Jive, Bubblelicious, Moser @ Chasers, San Tran @ Room 680, and most recently "Dome" Reunion I + II @ Chasers. Playing along side with some of the worlds best eg,Timo Maas [Germany], Sister Bliss/Faithless [UK], CJ Bolland LIVE [Belgium], Nick Sentience [UK], Space DJz (4-dex) [UK], Alexander Kowalski LIVE [Germany] and Heiko Laux [Germany] not to mention most of Melbourne's finest. Simon also had appearnces on Kissfm 86.7 and www.clubbersradio.com.
In the studio Simon has been writing since about 2002 and was fortunate enough to be working for Apple Computer Australia in an A/V Sales role which gave him a wealth of knowledge in a range of software including Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Cubase and Reason. Soon after leaving his position at Apple Don Steele stepped into the picture and offered Simon a job at CapitalDj. It was from there he was asked to produce a rmx of "Soulchip's" - Let's Rock for the Vinyl Pusher label.
