Nah, I just edited the MIDI file in Ableton - so basically I threw it in a channel with the pads on another one, figured out which synth I wanted to use, then just kind of used the initial MIDI as a base and drew/added/removed notes so that it didn't feel as hectic/cluttered (it was based on the MIDI for the sax part in the Cantina Theme).
I don't know - it might change a fair bit yet as well. Like I said, super early version, so we'll see if it ever even finds its way to a "decent" state - still feels way, way, way too amateur/like an obvious Ableton production to me.

well, being that i can't remember what the original sounds like, it sounds dec
the bassline is doing too much melodically IMO, can be more reduced and rhythmic. Especially given the phrasing of the other lines.
Everything is very quantized and doesn't swing very much, I found it rather silly in that regard haha, given instrumentation and of course the original
I think everything needs to be a bit more ballsy. If you're going to make it spacey, make it spacier, if you're going to make it groovy, make it groovier, etc. It's suffering from a sort of I-dont-know-what-I-want-it-to-be syndrome
I don't like that weird classical 18th century stringy pad in the background. It sounds very canned and there's no expression in the delivery. I think the attack is too long and the pad itself is too muddy. The track wants to be weird, but many of the sounds and rhythms are too safe IMo to actually be weird.
My favorite moments are at the ends of phrases when everything sort of dies down and
The percs IMO are kind of funkless. The rhythm figures are esoteric and hard to get into - ie they dont translate into movement. Particularly the weird noisy glitch percs. I find them a little annoying. Take out the symbol crashes IMO
needs more syncopation
In general I think you need more automation.
I'm not feeling the white noise sweeps. I personally think it's an easy way out of creating musical tension through harmonics and timing, which is the essence of music. I am guilty of this myself in the past.

On that last bit: It's because I have no fucking clue what I'm doing with percs and fills
Definitely one of the least favorite aspects of the track.
Thanks for the bump, and yeah - I'm definitely working on it, but it's taken a very "weird" turn and I don't want to up another version until it's much more close to being finished.
It's also just been kind of a hectic time in my life in general - and I've been able to devote less and less of my mind to production.
Will hopefully see something up in the next few weeks - but thanks again for the bump and the interest.
