lame...considering the fact that the root of all phobias is a fear of death, so in the back of your mind you somehow think you will die from peanut butter being stuck to the roof of your mouth lol

my only fear in life is childbirth.

That's why it's called an irrational fear.

I'm not sure where I got it, but I have heard an argument that's at least similar to the idea that all phobias stem from a fear of our own mortality - whether it be rational (fear of falling from heights) or completely absurd (again, fear of cotton balls).

Jamie's comment actually got me itchin' to try and track down where it is I read that - because I recall it being a pretty interesting article. Will post if I can master Google.

I would like to read that article if you find it.

Fear of death is rational, and that's the very definition of what a phobia isn't.

Fear of death for irrational reasons is *I think* what the argument was all about.

I might just have to email my old psych. prof., as he'll know right away (was a handout in class).

That doesn't really make sense. Death rationalizes the fear. Doesn't matter if it's founded in fact or not, so long as it's rationalized. Unless of course you're talking about somekind of subconscious fear of death, in which case it can't be proven.
