i had a friends iPod Touch for a week which is exaclty like the phone but without the phoning and all the time internet and I can say that having that would be really wicked.

It looks the buinsess, Its stunning to look at...
Its just the drop in Apples standards over the past few years that makes me worry how well built the actual product is and the fact that If I had it, I would be scared to take it out with me!!
And plus, seriously, How can you text someone on that tiny tiny keyboard!??... Its bad enough sober, but I would never be able to text someone after a few drinks.

Actually I believe they've opened up the source code for it now.
Anyway, the iPhone is in no way a bad phone but there is better out there. It's missing some crucial features which are all dealbreakers for me.

Apple has never opened up the source. They never will. Just like MacOS is not open source. The backend is (it is called darwin) and they are forced to distribute it because it is GPL'd (Any and all derivative works from GPL source are also GPL source and must be distributed or at least available publicly without any impeding force.) Beyond what is GPL'd code, it is closed source.
