it almost happened with Georgia-Russia conflict a few weeks back
US started sending weapons to Poland for "defense system" while in the media light we wanted to end conflict through peace talks.
Plus any other 9/11 incident and everyone would be more than glad to pick up their guns and march upon the "enemy"
