Well what can I say. Hmmm. I walked into the place (never been there before) and the decor got my attention right away. The tunes were groovin' and I was already feeling the vibe. It was strange at the same time 'cause I always call Guvernment my home. It has been for quite a while. So stepping into Circa for the first while was kinda strange. Almost like I was cheating on Guv somehow. I was approached almost right away by members of TA. They all recognised me... I guess it was the bald head. Later that night I was also recognised by ppl from Facebook. Now here's the kicker... pretty much everyone asked/commented on the same thing. They asked where my camcorder was? Man I felt as if I was naked without it to tell you the truth, and I wish I had it that night. Apparently it's Circa's policy not to allow camcorders in, but I saw a few "professional" looking ones up on stage thought the night recording the festivities. The vidcams are easily double or more than what I paid for mine. I think the pros used these brands I seen, but they weren't more than double the size of mine. Obviously their quality would be apparent if you compared them to mine.
Anyway... after a while they started to let the ppl go upstairs to snoop around. This is where I was becoming more and more impressed with the place. Every turn I took was like some kind of Easter hunt. You never knew what was around the corner or up yet another flight of stairs. Now from guys point of view, I found there were many sexy looking gals as we walked around. There was this one room that felt like Guv's Orange Room, but had it's own distinct flavor... in red. I really liked the look. Another room had these bunnies with cigarettes behind the bar. Off to the side of that place was this glass enclosed collection of these silly looking bunnies going round and round. I really wished I had my vidcam to record them. So cute. At the very top was one room that, at the beginning of the night, spun some wicked electro. I was diggin' it as the style of music reminded me of The Gallery at Guv... only this was much larger and nicely lit. As I returned later to this area, it was apparent it was popular since it was jammed packed. As a matter of fact the whole place was rammed with ppl, from the smoking area to the highest spot available. I must note, though, that the smoking area was very bleak. I'm so used to seeing The Guv's and how great they have theirs' set up that I was a tad disappointed with Circa's. They really should make it more fun out there. Now I don't smoke, but my friends do and it would be nice to hang with them out there if it looked appealing. Oh well.
Carl Cox set came on and right from the get-go he never let me down. I've never seen him live B4 and waited for the right time when he was in T.O. spinning on a weekend instead of a work-night. God dam his shit is good! I don't know what time he finished as I left about 5:20am, but there were quite a few ppl on the main floor grooving to his beats.
As for this venue in the Toronto scene? To those of you who are connected with Guv, take note. Although Circa is still a puppy compared to you as being a big dog... watch out. From what I seen tonight, this puppy is growing and it's teeth are getting bigger from what I heard that night. Perhaps the time will come sooner than you think and this "puppy" just may bite the dominate dog on it's ass and take it's place as the "pack leader". Time will tell.
To Orin and "the ppl above" I hope you reconsider allowing my vidcam in on future big events, because from the positive responses I got tonight, it's like it's expected now for me to record these event's... all for the love of the clubbing industry. |
I just read this whole thing since a few people are asking me to read it! LOL!
Dude, what's with the biting and puppies and dogs?
see u @ the Guv
