We have one of those Roomba thingys... it's pretty damned good. We also have a Bissle (sp?) upright but you'd have to ask Mrs. Hazard about it.

BTW, if you have tile floors the Scoba (mop version of Roomba) kicks some serious ass... because mopping sucks.

I vouch for Dyson, but not at full price. Found one on Craig's list for $150 used only once, cause the guy didn't like it. Let's just say he was a tad light in the pants and very very critical of how much suction he needs in his vacuum

My girlfriend has one, It's fantastic. I think it's even more effective than mopping.
