reading is still required though. reading is how i learned the theory behind everything. practicing allowed me to put those theories to use.
but dont bother buying books. there are tons of reading material available on the internet for free. just use google.

Hope you would go further for better cameras, since you seem like hard working man... Since you have such a good access(relationship as well) to those people and events, wish you get better profit from your effort.

Have you ever tried to create a portfolio and submit to those fancy magazines??Following masters on net and print media???

As for fisheye lenses, if you guys can manage to hold camera straight you can even have fantastic portraits without distortions. After a while zoom lenses won't make sense, so you might consider sharp and fast single focus lenses. And you might discover that you are more creative with single lens as you try very hard to create perfect frame in single angle... This is what usually people experience. So I wouldn't invest so much money on zoom lenses in the beginning. See what you like and invest your money on right thing...

I don't follow recent digital developments, these are suggestions from a film user...There is some great zoom lenses, but they are over priced...

the only site i've looked at is http://www.canon.com.au/eos/tips/. it talks about the following topics.

Shooting Panaramas
Shooting Close Ups
Exploring Lens Focal Lengths
Playing with Lens Aperture
Shooting Moving Objects
Water in Motion
Exploring Filers
Sunsets and Sunrises
Taking Pictures at the Beach
Shooting at Night I
Shooting at Night II
Shooting in Monochrome
TutorialsTutorial 1 - Your Camera
Tutorial 2 - Shooting Modes
Tutorial 3 - Getting More Creative
Tutorial 4 - Accessories for EOS

they had videos before which was s bit better because it was less boring but it's still quick and helpful. and it's not just for canon users. it basically goes over the fundamental stuff which each cameara has.

----------------------------------------------

here are some other sites i got from a FAQ on the RFD photography forum.

Flash/Lightening - http://www.strobist.blogspot.com/

Cheap DIY Lightbox - http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...d.php?t=281524

Cheap DIY Bounce Card - http://www.abetterbouncecard.com/

Exposure/Manual Light Meter - http://www.uscoles.com/exposures.pdf

Photography tips and techniques: articles and guides - http://photo.net/learn/

and here are 2 toronto photography groups as well.

Toronto Photography Meet-Up Group - http://www.tpmg.ca/

Toronto Urban Exploration Group - http://urbanexplor.meetup.com/12/?gj=sj5

hope that helps

Just buy photography books that interest your style... technical stuff is not hard since there are forums and of course practice is the key...

Thanks a lot for the links peeps! I know practicing will get me far but I would still like to educate myself on some basics, I perhaps wouldn't have come across or thought of on my own. I won't base everything off of books.

The wide angle or fisheye lenses are only a want for me right now, not necessarily a need. I wanna master the 18-200m lens I have right now and see how far that takes me.
