I'm the type of person that gets drowsy/sleepy at least once throughout the day, no matter what I'm doing, studying/driving (yeah..I know, yikes!), it doesn't matter even if I've had a good nights rest. I used to drink coffee/redbull to stay up but it always sucked. I still felt pretty drowsy mentally, still constant yawning and stretching and what not...the caffeine would just keep me physically awake, not let me close my eyes. Plus I drink a lot of water, and I hate how caffeine dehydrates you.
Luckily I've found a good solution. Taking a 10-15 min nap has me feeling alert, awake, and refreshed...and I can go back to doing w/e I needed to. Works awesome.
