From the technical side of things, like someone else said your mixes are sometimes too late . Beatmatching was ok overall

Going to track selection beacause thats whats important. First half is that kind of techy deep house like a lot of djs plays these days so if youre going to go this road youre not gonna stand out from the crowd in my opinion. Second half is more proggy melodic house. I like that kind of house better but that part consits too many well known tracks, my advice would be to dig deeper in finding your music. Summing up set is good but not a stuff that I would return to more than twice

PS. Actually I was hoping you would go in the direction of house with some funky "discoish" elements, but if you feel better in this techy/deep house thats fine, most important thing is to play what you like

All the best to you.
Cheers

Seb

Thanks for the review SebQ

I guess the biggest lesson I can take from this mix is the 'mixing out earlier' thing. I've been really looking into that and have tried mixing a few portions of 'Dark Light' that way and the results have been excellent! For example, I tried to mix out from 'Elif' into 'Freiflug' in the way Jasperovitsj suggested and holy shit was he right! It sounds so much better and professional. I will get more into details later, but for now I really can't thank the people who gave me this advice enough, specially Denys

Well, regarding the track selection I'm just playing stuff I like. I like to think that my tastes in EDM are quite diverse and I think that is exactly what this mix reflects. I'm not trying to play the latest tracks or the most obscure tracks here, I'm just playing tracks that are, well..."Me", you know?

I have been wanting to make a funky/discoish mix but haven't got around to it just yet. Perhaps in a couple of months.

All I can say is that I loved it just as much as everything else you've mixed, not more, but certainly not less.
I wasn't that much into the beginning, but it just kept getting better and better by the minute.

And then it ended

Definitely a keeper, next time make it 4hrs... or 8!

Oh, and thanks for the headz up

Thanks Bam! You're the second person to say it was too short, lol. You see, I'm just starting out with this whole thing and I thought that nobody would want to listen to 2, 3, or 4 hours of my shit

I try to keep these mixes to just under 80 minutes to keep them CD friendly and keep them accessible to everyone. But I'll keep your comments in mind and might make a longer mix in the future

Thanks for the support, and glad you liked it. Just one question...Why didn't you enjoy the beginning just as much? Is it because the music is not your cup of tea or was there something else?

Cheers!

First up, Eleven. Definitely a nice intro tune with melodic percussion and a relaxed spacy feel.
Cool transition into The Case. Sort of a radio switchover, but you know it's part of the mix.
When I first skimmed through the mix, I didn't really like this tune because of the vocals, but it needs to be listened to after the 1st track to be fully appreciated. I kinda like it now. Very trippy and dark.
Sweet mix into the Elif remix, I thought that sax was part of #2 for a second until I realized that was the track coming in. Really like this tune; chunky as well as relaxed. Reminds me of like classic warehouse tunes but would also fit great into a lounge or cafe.
Getting more energetic and melodic now with Freiflug and keeping the darkness.
Cool how at the end of Freiflug it gets brighter (Dark-->Light)
Moving on to Tech Noir. Weird tune, kind of wonky but has enough harmony to not totally fall apart. I'm hearing Gabriel and Dresden style percussion in this.
Of course I like Shur-I-Kan's work
The transition of energy into Yohkoh is amazing. I've always loved these slower, almost psy-style tracks and this is no exception. Spacey tripped out goodness with an awesome bassline! Probably my fav tune of this set. The whole Yohkoh release is hot.
Great mix into Moonraker. This track reminds me of WMC 2005. I forget what other track uses the vocal sample from this but I got a demo set CD in Miami with a track that uses the same sample and it's a techier house tune if I remember.
This is a sick track; I like it!
Now we get to Paul Keeley and you know my feelings, especially on Paper Jet!
Simply beautiful tune, one of my favs this year.
Twist is next, pretty good tune to follow up Paper Jet. Reminds me of Danceteria - Passion.
A bit of a change from the electro stuff I'm familiar with from My Digital Enemy, s'ok.
Sheila is ok, doesn't really go anywhere, a good filler imo. It's not a bad track, though.
Last Life! I like this track a lot, it drops the energy down a lot though from Flamenco Loco, however you had the bridge of Sheila in there so it's not as sharp. A good ending.

Nice job, woscar! I took a listen to this the other day at work. I don't know if I can get all detailed and break down track by track, like others have done, but you have definitely improved in terms of set structure since "Tones". There was an obvious progression, from the techy, percussive first half all the way to uplifting, melodic prog at the end, the peak being "Flamenco Loco". There are some parts where the beatmatching doesn't line up 100%, and you cut tracks out a bit too soon; when it comes to prog, I tend to like transitions that are held for a long time, melodies somewhat overlapping and mixed in-key, like in the Hernan Cattaneo EM for lack of a better explanation. But those are minor complaints, and I understand you were just mixing with a keyboard/mouse and Traktor.

I went ahead and bought "Flamenco Loco" after rewinding it and listening to it about 20 times straight since I heard it in your mix... definitely my favorite song in the mix, with "Paper Jet" being an obvious second. Wasn't a fan of the vocal sample in "Moonraker", always thought it was a bit cheese, Shur-I-Kan is definitely a producer who will be one to watch in the future, really getting into his sound lately.

Thanks for the listen

I'm already working on improving the "mixing out late" issue. I've tried some of the transitions again following the suggestions on this thread and the results have been wonderful! I only wish I had this advice sooner, lol.

Yeah, "Flamenco Loco" is a banger, I heard it on a Tom Morgan set a while back and I had to include it on a mix. That was one of the first tracks I bought for this mix

Glad you enjoyed it!
