My problem with City of God (I hate that film, I think I should make it clear from the beginning) is how the story is told, rather than what is told. That being said, the film is based on a true story, and being Brazilian, I don't doubt it. But, I don't think that's the best description you can get.
A much better portrait of what Rio is like (regarding criminality) can be found on The Elite Squad, released in 2007. Infinitely better (both production and plot wise) than "City of God", I think "The Elite Squad" describes the current situation of Rio de Janeiro more faithfully, even though it's just as violent.

Hmmm... good to know. I had no real problem with form though... that said, I think I might have enjoyed City of Men slightly more...
