Take that organised religion!

Although I would have liked to hear more about his evidence and scientific methods, I pretty much know what he'd elaborate on anyway.

I specifically love this line..."He found that traditional theological positions soon collapse once hard evidence is sought" near the bottom. Well...really? You think? No evidence eh? By golly, I never would have thought that!

Of course there is no evidence. "Mythical origins" is simply a nice way of saying "made up fairy tale". I never bought this crap even when my mom tried to push it on me since the age of 5 or 6. It's too bad that I will be long dead before humanity sheds religion and finally get our act together.

From many theists' points of view, it is their DUTY to defend the concept of belief in their faith without question. So when somebody "rocks the boat" and says a damning thing regarding their religion, they feel they are under attack (oh noes, people might be influenced by a scholar who tells them to question everything!) In all seriousness, if you are a person of faith, then you SHOULD be afraid of ideas that are corrosive to your faith. It's perfectly understandable. Scientific arguments could convince people to abandon their faith, which could cost many lives. It is not so farfetched to think that one scholar's life might be less important than the lives of all those people who might be turned away from their chance at heaven and everlasting happiness.

Of course, I'm not ADVOCATING extremism; I'm just arguing that extremism really is at the fundamental core of most mainstream religious beliefs. If the non-extreme believers are truly believers, then NOT trying to spread the gospel and fight against scientific reasoning is akin to leaving people in a burning building. For example, if you are Christian and you honestly believe that I'm going to spend eternity in hell for not accepting Christ as my saviour, then why aren't you trying to save me? Either you don't actually believe in your faith, or you're a douchebag who is too lazy to help those who are clearly in need.

A highly recommended and hilarious talk is the following; I promise it's not nearly as mind-numbing as Religulous:
