And I know I made the right choice - I have never doubted that, and I didn't shed a single tear in regret. The hardest part was just knowing/seeing that my parents were incapable of giving the final OK on it - they knew it was the right thing, but it was just really obvious it would be me that had to make the final call. I don't know - there's a lot more to it, but it's kind of gross/gory so I won't, but the last two hours of his life were really just wretched to witness.

And it's definitely the little things I miss - being greeted at the door every day, being woken up by "I NEED TO PISS!" barking in the morning, his undying need for attention... but fortunately, all those things generally bring a smile to my face rather than make me remorseful for what has happened. My only concern now is for my mother, because he was absolutely her dog - and I know she's pretty hurt over all of this.

I was printing digital pictures onto photo paper to fill a few new frames this morning, and I stumbled across a whole folder of our late dog. He was put down a little over two months ago, and the pictures just made the memories come rushing back. Losing a dog is really hard.

If I can make a suggestion, finding another pet (even if just a fish or hamster or something) can partially fill a void even though you can never really replace a lost friend.

Indeed. Though we got these guys before Brooks passed, they've definitely been pretty much been great to have around...

Last year I had to put down my dog I had for 16 years (got him when I was about 6), and it was so hard to make that decision but he looked so miserable I had to.

in any event, losing a pet after that long is horrible and i hope you get through it alright. just remember he isn't suffering any more and it's just a part of life. try to be happy knowing that you gave him a great life and that he knew how much you loved him

i developed some pics of Codie after i put her down and kept them in my office at work.

then a month later i got a new dog. LOL. sounds horrible, but i was going insane w/out having one around again.
