No, it's not rocket science but it sure as hell helps. The only thing that separates a person from the entrance of a club is a piece of plastic. And yes, fake IDs get made which help the toddlers get in. If people really want to get in they 'll get in but if the bouncer checks and scans ID's it'll help and eventually make the under age people stop trying to get in where they don't belong.

You should expect to be ID'd when going out regardless of how old you are. I already have my ID in hand by the time I get to the front of the line anyway, sometimes they don't ask for it but usually they do.

Perhaps it's easier for clubs, bars etc to adopt a business-wide policy of ensuring their own staff check everyone out before allowing entry, essentially taking that particular responsibility and discretion away from the doorman.

If any underage people are caught inside the premises, it'd make it much easier for the club to just sack the employee citing that policy, rather than have the law close the place down.

A much less sensible answer would be : "Yeah, you're right, fucking pedantic idiots, we'll show 'em".

What? My true colors... because I work and have to ID people? I work at a gas station, not a club. I haven't been barhopping because I live in the US and I turn 21 February 9th. I've been to plenty of club type stuff though, I know how the system works.

You have to be 18 to sell alcohol (to serve it you have to be 21 I think). I don't know what the age is for cigarettes but there probably is one.
